Welcome to the STAR Awards!

STAR Awards, the education awards for the investment management industry, honors excellence in education, marketing and education. The program is ever-evolving to reflect current, integrated education and marketing efforts. With over 25 categories covering communications targeting investors, advisors and plan participants, firms have the ability to enter in multiple areas for recognition.

History
For over two decades the STAR awards have honored extraordinary marketing, communications innovation and education efforts. Presented by the MFEA (Mutual Fund Education Alliance), the program was originally designed to recognize fund firms for their shareholder communications efforts but has evolved over the years. Among its most prestigious awards are the Overall STAR recipients in each of three key channels – retail, advisor and retirement. Also, the Community Investment award honors the company whose local efforts in support of important philanthropic initiatives best represents the spirit of the industry to grow a better future. Additional Distinguished awards include the Diversity & Inclusion award, Education Campaign award and the Education Award.

Today, the STAR program spans efforts digital and print, individual efforts and collaborative company-wide campaigns. The awards are given in a celebration presentation in Chicago that honors individuals, teams and companies.

The STAR Awards accepts entries from investment management firms, agencies and other third party companies that produce education/marketing materials for investors, advisors and plan participants.

Through the 2018 STAR Awards, firms have the opportunity to earn recognition in various categories. The program is the only competition of its kind, judged by industry professionals, and recognized by the media as an important barometer of excellence. Participants will receive an evaluation scorecard for every entry, providing valuable information teams can use to assess their communications efforts.

The STAR Awards’ Celebration is a premiere event that offers the chance for winning firms to be recognized by their peers and allows industry professionals to network while enjoying cocktails and hors d’oeuvre.

The Celebration takes place in Chicago during the fall season.

2018 event details coming soon.

“The STAR Awards have a history of recognizing our industry’s best examples of innovative marketing, communications and education programs. At OppenheimerFunds, we were honored last year to win the Community Investment award, which recognized our 10,000 Kids by 2020 initiative to engage students in math literacy programs through non-profit partnerships and active employee volunteerism, as well as the awards for Best Ad Campaign and Best Social Media Campaign. The MFEA is an important partner for us and shares our commitment to educating investors on reaching their investing goals.”

“Every year, we look forward to attending the STAR Awards alongside our peers. The awards program provides an unparalleled setting to view the best in education and marketing efforts within our industry. At T. Rowe Price, we take pride in our firm’s long-standing commitment to educating and guiding clients in their retirement and investment decisions. Having a platform to showcase our work, and learn from the success of others, is invaluable for our organization.” — Natalie W., T. Rowe Price

“I enjoy participating in the MFEA STAR Awards program because it gives our firm the opportunity to step back and take a look at everything we’ve produced over the course of a year. As we gather material to submit our entries, we are reminded of the wonderful or new things we tried, we are reminded of what we could improve upon, and we are reminded of what we would still like to accomplish. The STAR Awards event is unique because not only are you recognized for all the hard work that goes into your marketing and communication efforts, you are able to learn from your competition. It’s always helpful to see what other firms are doing, whether they are the same size firm as yours or in a completely different category. At U.S. Global Investors two of our key values are recognition of achievement as well as curiosity to learn and improve. The STAR Awards is a perfect example of both.” — Holly M., U.S. Global Investors

“At Royce, we’ve always seen the Star Awards program as a wonderful opportunity to get together with our peers and see the very best materials that our industry has to offer. It’s a time to share ideas and see what our counterparts and competitors are doing—which has definitely helped to sharpen our thinking and improve our work.” — John D., Royce & Associates/The Royce Funds

“In an increasingly competitive market, it’s important for the communicators that drive industry messaging to receive valuable insights and hear feedback on what is working and not working as well as it could be. The scorecard gives participants first-hand feedback by providing them with an idea of where their scores fell within the category and how they compared with the winning entry in that category. The scorecard provides personal feedback from the judges that can help marketers improve their efforts across the board.” — Kimber Lintz, Director of MFEA
